MFI, which suffers badly in every UK housing slump, has called in the administrators, putting 1,200 jobs at risk.
MFI has come a long way: it came into a market where home improvement was new - and led the flat-pack furniture market now dominated by Swedish company IKEA.
To begin with, the product quality was poor but over the years, MFI has improved dramatically. But it's had financial problems over the years. It's not the only company at that end of the market: Courts went out of business in 2005.
