Bulk rename files in Linux Mint

Editorial Staff

There is a huge range of options for how to do this and they are all complicated.

But out of the box, Linux Mint has a remarkably simple solution.

This is how to do it.

To rename files from x.filename.jpg by removing the prefix x.

- open the directory holding all the files
- sort the files by name
-highlight all those with the x. prefix
-right click and select "Rename"

A dialogue will open showing a list of the files.

In the drop downs select "replace" and "name only."

In "find" insert, in this example x.

Leave "replace" blank.

Click "Rename".

Done.
